Artist Statement

The subject matter of my art has changed a lot over the years and one of my favorite parts about becoming an artist is that it remains to be greatly subjected to shifts in my life. Although through all of the different influences or subject matters that have cycled through my psyche, such as cartoons, spirituality, superheroes, and philosophy, there are elements that don't necessarily leave but combine or conform to the present. For example, my later teens were greatly influenced by travel and eastern ideologies like Buddhism and yogic practice. These experiences gave me the desire to capture the spiritual experience in the hope to provide a little relief or a sense of understanding to what I saw as an overly complicated and chaotic world. In most recent years I continue to build on these spiritual beliefs but have begun to lean more towards the physical or human experience. I wish not to be fixated on the ethereal or the physical but find balance, I want my art to be self-expressive of my experience and perspectives to open up a greater discourse and exelle my own understanding, and hopefully, the people that see my art. I aim to have the viewer connect emotional experiences and provoke deeper questioning and reflection. Aesthetically, I would argue that my works are generally exaggerated, cartoony and resemble many features that were ingrained at a younger age from comics and cartoons. More importantly, however, I want to continue art as a means of relief and therapy. The creative space works like alchemy, you can take sadness or even excitement for example and transmute the emotion into a physical expression, giving the act of creating an almost higher sense of self and contentment. Art is my passion, practice, escape, and my yoga.
